Access from anywhere
SaaS systems are typically easy to access, but an on-premise system which is web-based can provide access from anywhere as well. An on-premise solution may require configurations to your firewall, and therefore provide additional control.
Own and access your data
On-premise solutions give you control of your data. You can save your data in an offline version if you want to backup your database or access your data records offline. For SaaS solutions, you need to ensure that you data can be exported and are not held hostage by the SaaS vendor.
Works if internet goes down
A SaaS system is always available unless you lose your internet connection. If your business requires 100% internet availability, you need to make sure that your local internet provider can provide you with a back-up plan for internet access, or you must subscribe to two internet lines from two local internet providers so your internet connection is redundant.
Uptime Guarantee
For on-premise systems, the uptime of your system is under the control of your IT personnel. For SaaS solutions, you need to obtain a Service Level Agreement with the SaaS vendor to ensure that the SaaS vendor meets their uptime guarantee.
